Interprofessional Teaching in Action Matters Award (I-TEAM Award)

The purpose of the I-TEAM award is to recognize a faculty team who has demonstrated excellence in interprofessional practice and education (IPE) through teaching innovation and the advancement of CAIPPER’s IPE Mission.

The CAIPPER’s Mission of IPE is to create transformational change in health professions education and health care service delivery by delivering evidence-based learning experiences that build collaborative competence and foster interprofessional scholarship and collaborative practice across academic programs, clinical services and community partners with focused attention to the pressing needs of underserved individuals and populations.

$2,500 will be awarded to a faculty team based on their development of innovative curriculum, organizational change, and IPE practice opportunities that fosters a culture of interprofessional collaboration.

It is with great pleasure to announce that the selection committee has selected Scholars and Leaders in Interprofessional Geriatrics to receive the 2024 I-TEAM award! The program was selected for it’s focus on advancing interprofessional education, health equity, and patient centered care with early learners at UI Health.

  1. UIC faculty and instructional staff from all campuses are eligible. One team award will be granted annually.
  2. The planning team and the presenters must represent at least two or more professions.
  3. The learners participating in the activity must represent at least two or more professions.
  4. The interprofessional learning activity must have been offered at least three times.

Demonstrated exceptional teaching effectiveness in advancing interprofessional practice and education in the following areas:

  1. The program design is evidenced informed, innovative and addresses important, contemporary interprofessional education or interprofessional practice needs consistent with the mission of CAIPPER.
  2. The program evaluation plan is evidence informed, uses valid assessment methods and demonstrates interprofessional learning outcomes.
  3. Evaluation results have been used to inform quality improvement.
  4. The program has been offered at least three times, is scalable, sustainable and/or transferable to new learners, formats or settings.
  5. The program is designed to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all learners.
  1. Completed 2024 Qualtrics application that will provide evidence of how the team has met the award criteria.
  2. One and up to three signed letters of support from a learner, faculty member, or academic administrator.
  3. Attachments that demonstrates how the program meets the award criteria.

The 2024 I-TEAM application will open in April 2024. Submissions are due on Friday, May 17 2024 and an award announcement will be made in June 2024.

Award recipients will be recognized at the UIC Faculty Awards Ceremony and Reception that is typically held in October.

A five member review committee will be appointed and will include faculty, staff, and students from the seven health sciences colleges and other units at UIC. Past winners of the award will be invited to participate in the review committee.

The committee will use the 2024 I-TEAM Rubric to evaluate all applications. Review committee members will recuse themselves from reviewing applications where a conflict of interest exists.

The Kirkpatrick model is frequently used for the evaluation of IPE interventions.  The four levels of outcomes include reaction, learning, behavior, and results. Please refer to the articles cited below for more information:

Level l: Reaction Leamers 1: views on the learning experience and its interprofessional nature,
2a: Modification of attitudes/perceptions Changes in reciprocal attitudes or perceptions between participant groups. Changes in perception or attitude towards the value and/or use of team approaches to caring for a specific client group.
2b: Acquisition of knowledge and skills Acquisition of knowledge and skills linked to interprofessional collaboration.
